Powerleague, the original and premier provider of commercial small-sided football in the UK, has introduced Padel courts to its Manchester Nicholls facility following a £1.3 million investment.
With Padel recognised as the fastest-growing participation sport globally, Powerleague is taking it from the preserve of tennis clubs and bringing it to the urban high street, opening six new courts at its club on Dalberg Street, Ardwick, creating the brand’s largest UK Padel club to date.
The new covered Padel courts are open now and easily accessible from Manchester City Centre, offering players the ability to enjoy the sport all year-round, with the pay and play model making it accessible for everyone. The new investment has also seen updates to the centre’s facilities and the creation of a new bar and social space.
Already home to three 5-a-side pitches and three 7-a-side pitches, Powerleague Manchester Nicholls is located close to the Manchester Apollo and currently welcomes over 1,600 football players every week.
The new courts offer the opportunity for absolute beginners and experienced players alike to book 60 and 90 minute sessions, alongside introductory Padel lessons and social events, with prices for courts starting from as little as £9 per person.
To celebrate the launch of the padel courts, Powerleague is hosting an opening party on Thursday 20th March from 5:00pm-9:00pm and inviting the local community down to enjoy free ‘Intro to Padel’ sessions, a free to enter social tournament and a ‘Beat the Pro’ challenge with the chance to win prizes, alongside food and drink and a live DJ.
As the nation’s foremost operator of small-sided football, Powerleague’s investment in racket sports in Manchester follows successful launches in Shoreditch and Birmingham with a further 16 clubs to follow.
The strategic investment follows the meteoric rise of Padel, a short form of tennis, in recent years. The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has recorded a growth in courts from 50 to 726 over the past 4 years with player numbers growing from 6,000 to 129,000. They expect that number will further increase to 400,000 by the end of 2026.
