Eighteen crews of Firefighters are currently tackling a blaze near to the M62 on Saddleworth Moor including Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

Crews are also being supported by the Highways Agency, West Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

West Yorkshire Fire Service describe the blaze as a large fire and crews are tackling it in very hot, dry conditions and are urging people to continue to avoid The fire, which has engulfed the moorland, is producing heavy plumes of smoke, impacting visibility in the surrounding areas.

In an earlier statement West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said

“We were called at 12.15 this afternoon to reports of a moorland fire near Oldham Road in Ripponden.8 crews plus several supporting units are currently at the scene.”
