The ECB’s chief executive Richard Gould has responded to a letter written by Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi and signed by 160 MPs calling for England to boycott their match against Afghanistan at next month’s Champions Trophy
The letter urged them to speak out against the Taliban’s unconscionable oppression of women and girls and boycott their upcoming match against Afghanistan in the Champions Trophy with the MP saying the ECB should be vocal against this medieval oppression and take a stand.
The letter raises concerns over the “insidious dystopia” and “sex apartheid” unfolding in Afghanistan’.
Controversy has raged over the issue with claims that the the ICC are breaking their own rules which require full test playing members to have both men’s AND women’s teams.
Gould said the governing body “is committed to finding a solution” which “upholds the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan”.
While there has not been a consensus on further international action within the ICC, the ECB will continue to actively advocate for such measures,” he added
