The driver whose car crashed onto a railway line on Friday causing travel chaos remains in hospital with serious injuries that police say are not life threatening in an update
The car crashed into a concrete barrier at the Regents Rd Roundabout in Salford, went into the air, crashed along the top of another concrete barrier, then crashed through another before landing upside down on the tracks.
The incident brought serious travel disruption on the rail line between Manchester and Liverpool
The BMW was removed from the tracks around midday but repair work to the overhead power lines kept the tracks shut until late evening
Police said that the driver had been arrested on suspicion of drink driving
