The Lawyer representing the family involved in the incident at Manchester Airport has told a news conference that he believes there has been a deliberate attempt to smear the family.

Aamer Anwar said the family had been placed in a difficult position as they had hoped that the IOPC would be left alone to investigate the incident but instead there had been a deliberate attempt to smear the family and introduce incomplete versions of the event

Anwar went into say that the family had been been subjected to horrific racist abuse and that there had been a disinformation campaign in order to justify what he described as police violence

Anwar confirmed that he is in the process of lodging a formal complaint against officers from Greater Manchester Police and said he wanted a meeting with Mayor Andy Burnham adding “if he is really interested in the context of what actually happened that date

It is alleged that the mother was racially abused on the plane. The sons confronted the abuser and minutes later, Greater Manchester police were throwing punches, using tasers and threatening to kill the boys.

The events of the 23rd July saw a police officer at Manchester Airport wcaught on camera kicking and stamping on a man’s head, leading to protests.

New footage then emerged showing the alleged assault of three police officers before the incident.
