Oldham Council have confirmed that two more cases of Coronavirus have been discovered in the Borough.

It brings the total in Oldham to four, the latest affected are said to have links with the previous cases

Two more patients in the UK has died after contracting coronavirus.

A Royal Wolverhampton NHS trust spokesperson said:

The trust can confirm that a patient in their 70s being treated for underlying health conditions has died. The patient had tested positive for Covid-19.

The family has been informed and our condolences and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

We will not be commenting further and ask that everybody respects the family’s privacy.

A fifth death was confirmed later in the day though no details about where the patient is from have been provided.

Chief medical officer for England Professor Chris Whitty said that “probably within the next 10-14 days” there will be “a situation where we say everybody who has even minor respiratory tract infections or a fever should be self isolating for seven days afterwards”The

Stock markets slumped this morning following a crash in oil prices and increased fears that the coronavirus outbreak will cause a global recession.

The FTSE 100 dropped by seven per cent, wiping more than £100bn off the value of London’s top listed companies and is on track for its worst day since the 2008 financial crisis, while trading in the US was suspended when markets crashed on opening.

There has been a meeting of the Government’s COBRA committee in Downing Street.A No. 10 spokesman has said that the coronavirus ‘will spread in a significant way’ despite officials ‘working at significant speed to delay the spread’, but the country is still in the ‘contain phase’ of the plan to deal with the outbreak . He added that the government is ‘not putting forward advice’ on cancelling sports events.

A further COBRA meeting is planned for Wednesday.

The Foreign Office has warned Britons to avoid large parts of northern Italy under a coronavirus quarantine, unless their journey is essential.Those travelling from locked-down areas have also been advised to self-isolate if they returned to the UK in the last 14 days – even if they have shown no symptoms.

Meanwhile US authorities are planning a flight tomorrow to repatriate Britons on the coronavirus-hit Grand Princess cruise ship, the Foreign Office said
