The Deputy Mayor for Greater Manchester Kate Green has asked Greater Manchester Police for a full report on the actions taken yesterday over the City Centre dispersal notice

Numerous videos on social media showed youngsters who had come into the City Centre being forced to leave and bring out on trains

In a statement released this morning she said

“I am aware that Greater Manchester Police issued a dispersal order in Manchester city centre yesterday in response to concerns about large groups of people causing disturbances at the Christmas markets.

“I have watched the videos circulating on social media with concern and have asked GMP for a full report on the action taken.

“While we will not tolerate lawlessness and anti-social behaviour in Greater Manchester, I want to reassure the community that I expect the police to treat everyone fairly and with respect, and I will be inviting community leaders to meet me to discuss what has happened.”

Some 400 youngsters had reportedly come into the City Centre and police issued a dispersal notice at lunchtime yesterday

One report alleges that a highly militarised police operation was racially targeting Gypsy/Traveller youth expelling them from Manchester.
