A new funding relationship between Westminster and Greater Manchester announced by the Chancellor Rachel Reeves will give the region a better day in how it can spending its money
Greater Manchester along with the West Midlands will become the first areas in the country to gain integrated settlements which will give these areas “meaningful control of the funding” and how it is allocated.
Previously money from Westminster would be allocated to be spend on certain projects, however the move which will take effect from next April means the money will go into a central pot which can then be allocated by the devolved administration
Greater Manchester’s Mayor Andy Burnham said
“we thank the Chancellor for the huge vote of confidence in devolution in Greater Manchester by confirming the move to a new funding relationship with Whitehall in the form of an integrated settlement from next April. This will mean we can now go further and faster, accelerating the growth we are seeing in our economy and the improvements we are making in the lives of our residents.”
