Hot tubs are an increasingly popular home feature; whether you’re looking for a quiet space to luxuriate and unwind after a long day, or are creating a fun new family social space, you can achieve it with a hot tub!
When you first think of a hot tub, your mind may be transported to visions of relaxing on a long summer evening with friends, a cold drink in hand, or maybe spending the summer holidays with your family splashing around and enjoying the sunshine…. But what about the other seasons?
Can hot tubs be used all year round?
To put it simply, yes! Hot tubs can be used at all times of year! Hot tubs can be used during spring, summer, autumn, and winter – their flexibility is one feature that makes hot tubs so popular!
While it’s very true that hot tubs are great for summer BBQs, they are also great during the other seasons, particularly winter, when a number of other activities you can do are limited by the cold and dark weather.
In fact, winter is one of the most popular seasons for hot tub usage! The combination of the hot water and cold air create a striking contrast, and many people love the sensation of sinking into the hot, steamy water after being out in the cold!
It’s also widely believed that soaking in a hot tub can boost your immune system, which is great for winter when there’s lots of nasty bugs going around! Hot tubs are designed to run all year round and through different weather conditions, but there are a few things you should bear in mind when using a hot tub all year round.
Tips for using your hot tub all year round
1. Cleaning your hot tub in winter
It is generally recommended that your hot tub water be changed at least 3-4 times a year. Changing your hot tub water in the winter can be more tricky than other seasons, particularly if you live somewhere where you regularly experience freezing temperatures.
To help keep your life simple, we’d recommend cleaning your hot tub in the autumn when the temperatures are still relatively warm.
2. Regulate body temperature
If you’re using your hot tub in colder temperatures, whether that be winter snow, biting autumn breezes, or chilly spring rains, being submerged in the warm water can raise your core temperature, and stepping out into the cold air can be a bit of a shock to the system!
If you’re planning on using your hot tub in colder weather, make sure you keep a thick towel or robe nearby to cover yourself as soon as you get out. Avoid walking around whilst wet, head straight to somewhere warm to dry off and get into some fresh clothes as soon as possible.
3. Check water level
Overtime the water level of your hot tub can naturally lower. If the water levels of your hot tub sink to a certain level it can cause your hot tub pumps and heaters to shut down. In the summer this can cause your water to become stagnant, dirty, and possibly allow unwanted bacteria to grow and thrive. In the winter it can cause the water and pipes to freeze, potentially causing lasting damage to your hot tub.
Hot tubs can require a fair amount of maintenance, but they’re definitely worth it! There’s no substitute for the memories you make spending quality time with your loved ones in your hot tub.
Whether you’re already the proud owner of a hot tub or are thinking of taking the plunge (no pun intended), hut tubs are fantastic investments that offer endless benefits to your physical and mental health, as well as giving you the opportunity to create lasting experiences and memories with those who matter most.
