The Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has confirmed that he will not be involved the police investigation into Angela Rayner.

A spokesperson for the Mayor said that “In line with established practice and for the avoidance of doubt, neither the Mayor nor the deputy mayor have had, nor will have, any involvement in this investigation. It is a purely operational matter for GMP.”

Both Burnham and his deputy Kate Green have  oversight of GMP and act as effective police and crime commissioner
