A public consultation is now open on plans to guide the next phase of regeneration in the east of Stockport town centre.
The plans include up to 8,000 new homes over the next 15 years, a new secondary school, a modern hospital, and improved green spaces and public areas.
Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said: “Stockport is a town on the move—and we’re just getting started. We’ve already made huge progress in Town Centre West, and now we’re ready to bring that same ambition to the east.
“This is about more than housing—it’s about creating greener spaces, stronger communities, and a town centre that works for everyone. With a focus on sustainability, wellbeing, and inclusive growth, we’re building a place where people want to live, work and thrive.”
Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, added: “The first five years of Stockport’s Mayoral Development Corporation show what’s possible when we put place and people first. Together, we’ve transformed Town Centre West—delivering thousands of new homes, a state-of-the-art transport interchange, vibrant commercial spaces and essential social infrastructure.
“But we’re just getting started. Now, we’re asking residents to help shape the future of Town Centre East. This is your chance to have a real say in how your town grows—ensuring that the next phase of regeneration reflects the needs, values and ambitions of the whole community.”
