The Labour MP Mike Amesbury has written to Chancellor Rachel Reeves formally resigning as the MP for Runcorn & Helsby, after he was handed a suspended prison sentence for punching a man in the street
The former Manchester Councillor in an interview with GB News apologised publicly to his family for how his actions have impacted them, as well as the victim of the attack.
‘I say sorry, for my son I’ve probably gone from hero to zero.’ he said
He admitted that as a result of his suspended sentence he is ‘losing’ his livelihood, and has had to list his family home on the market.
Amesbury also said that as a part of his sentencing he is also having 20 hours of anger management.
‘I have also been having some support through a psychiatrist for the last four months.’
