Two men have been arrested after a police officer observing a group riding e-bikes dangerously and behaving anti-socially on Great Clowes Street had a suspected firearm brandished in his face this lunchtime
The officer deployed his Taser, and additional patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The wo men – aged 20 and 21 – were detained on North George Street, Salford. They were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence or to enable another person to do so. Both remain in police custody for questioning.
An e-bike was recovered on Fenny Street, and a suspected firearm was found on Upper Camp Street. Scenes remain in place, and road closures are ongoing while further enquiries are conducted.
Police say they do not believe there is a risk to the wider public.
Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles from our Salford district said: “This incident is entirely unacceptable and highlights how quickly situations faced by our frontline officers can escalate. Our officers work tirelessly to keep our communities safe and should never be placed in such danger.
“We will always use every resource available to bring those responsible to justice. No one is above the law, and we will not tolerate this kind of behaviour on our streets.”
