A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries consistent with the use of a bladed article
It followed a disturbance with a group of five males on Windsor Street in Harpurhey,
He remains there at this time in a critical condition
No arrests have been made at this time and a scene remains in place to assist officers with enquiries.
Detective Inspector L Gibb of Greater Manchester Police CID said: “This investigation is in its very early stages and we are working hard to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We are treating this as a targeted attack and I want to reassure the local community that extra uniformed officers have been deployed to the area to carry out enquiries and to provide reassurance. They will remain in place throughout this evening.
