An eighteen year old man has been arrested in Withington this morning in relation to the sale of knives online.
He was arrested on suspicion of obtaining knives and the marketing of them, alongside drug offences, and remains in custody for questioning.
After forcing entry, inside the property large amounts of cannabis, amongst other drugs, valued at approximately over £20,000 were seized alongside obtaining several large knives, including machetes, axes and extendable batons, as a result of ongoing enquiries.
Sergeant Mohammed Waqas from the Operation Venture team said; “This arrest and investigation is a step forward as we continue to tackle knife crime in different ways and understand the emerging trend of how people can obtain them online.
“Working with colleagues and their specialised capabilities, we are now starting to hunt down those who break the law selling these weapons. They must answer for their actions in how they obtain and distribute weapons which have a direct effect on our communities.
“With tighter government regulations and stronger penalties coming into force around the sales of knives to underage people, both in-person and online, it will enable us to ensure we can continue to keep communities safe and our aim of reducing the number of knives on the streets.”
