Piccadilly
Manchester Piccadilly is the major arrival point for visitors to the city. With Manchester Piccadilly train station the fourth busiest train station in the country, the busiest outside London, with around 3.8 million passengers changing trains every year.
The train station was named Manchester Piccadilly back in 1960. The original name for the station was Store Street when it opened in 1842. The station changed its name to Manchester London Road five years later untilit got its current name 60 years ago.
Between 1998 and 2002 Manchester Piccadilly was extensively modernised ready for the Commonwealth Games hosted by the city in 2002. The project greatly enhanced the facilitie and layout as well as the visual appearance of the station with new areas for shopping established and a new glass entrances to the platforms.
