After rock ‘n’ roll star Liam Gallagher sent social media supersonic by telling fans he would‘Gig at Lidl’ if his performances at the Co-op Live arena fell through, Lidl is honouring the show that almost was by installing a blue plaque at its store closest to the venue, making its very own wonder-wall.
Following the excitement that saw thousands of fans encouraging the frontman to take the music to the fan-favourite supermarket, Lidl took to socials to join the debate and let Liam know, if he wanted to, the supermarket would maybe, definitely host the gig.
But now, it’s official, Liam Gallagher’s upcoming concert is going ahead at the Co-op Live arena this weekend (15th and 16th June) dashing Lidl’s hopes of him taking centre stage at its store. However, Lidl is not letting the moment slide away, and is instead celebrating the event-that-nearly-was with Liam’s very own blue plaque.
Emblazoned with ‘LIAM GALLAGHER, LEGEND ‘ALMOST PLAYED HERE’ JUNE 2024’, the memory will live forever at the Newton Heath store in Manchester – a stone’s throw from where the frontman has been confirmed to play.
Manchester Taxi Tours has also decided to roll with it, and is even offering to add the iconic stop to its tours if Gallagher fans want to see the spot for themselves. Some might say, it’s worth the trip.
Oasis fans and shoppers alike can now head to the Newton Heath store to check out the blue plaque for themselves from 14th June 2024.
