To celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21st, Manchester’s premier yoga destination, The Life Centre North, is bringing back its hugely popular Yogathon event.

With free yoga and meditation classes available for both devoted yogis and complete beginners, the Yogathon will take place in the Great Northern’s amphitheatre and at Impossible.

People have been practicing yoga for thousands of years, but it has experienced a boom in popularity in recent years as its physical and mental health benefits have come to the fore – it’s been estimated that the industry will grow by nearly 20% between 2015 and 2020.1

Last year, more than 200 people turned out for the inaugural Yogathon event, with the organisers expecting more than twice as many to get on their mats this June.

Classes will run from 12.15pm to 8.15pm with experts from The Life Centre North on hand to offer advice and tips.

The event is being hosted in aid of Manchester homeless support charity, the Booth Centre, and a service user of the charity’s day centre will be speaking at the event to tell their story.

Mark Schofield, Centre Director for the Great Northern, said: “We’re really excited to host the second annual Yogathon this June. It’s a fantastic event, taking place in the iconic surroundings of our amphitheatre.

“We’re hoping for an even bigger turnout than last year, and we’re looking forward to welcoming spectators as well and yogis on the 21st June.”

Kirsty Hogarth, Business Manager at The Life Centre North, said: “At The Life Centre, we are passionate about increasing awareness of Yoga’s positive impact on both the mind and body, and we hope this event will give people the opportunity to experience the benefits first hand.

“We look forward to seeing as many people as possible on the day – whether that’s taking part in a session or coming to watch the action and soak up the community atmosphere! What better way to spend the Summer Solstice than at a relaxed and welcoming community event in the heart of Manchester.”
