An investigation has been launched after a woman was violently sexually assaulted in Trafford yesterday evening

The attack happened about 5.45pm when the woman in her 40s was walking through an alleyway which runs by the side of Trafford General Hospital between Moorside Road and Davyhulme Road.

She was hit with force on the back of her head and fell to the ground. Her attacker then pinned her down and held a knife to her throat before sexually assaulting her.

He was then disturbed by something and fled the scene.

He is described as white, in his late 20s, about 6ft 2ins, with light ginger or blond eyebrows, and had a Manchester accent.

He is believed to have been wearing a grey hooded top pulled tight around his face to his eyebrows and bottom lip and grey jogging bottoms that were a different shade to his top.

Detective Inspector John Stainton, from GMP’s Trafford borough, said: “This was a terrifying attack on an innocent woman who was going about her day as usual.

“Everyone has the right to go about their daily lives without fear of being attacked or sexually assaulted.

“Specially trained officers are currently supporting her and I would like to praise her for her courage in reporting this to us.

“I understand this will cause concern in the community and we have increased patrols in the area.

“A team of officers have been working non-stop to find the man responsible and we will continue with our efforts.

“If you saw a man acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the offence then please call police.

“If you recognise the description of the man then I would also urge you to contact us.”

If you have any concerns at all or want to speak to someone to pass on information or report a sexual offence you can contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
