Decided by a public vote the Best Single Image was won by Jacob Caulfield, and the Best Portfolio was won by Ulysse di Meglio.
Winners were announced in front of hundreds of guests at Bilfinger GVA’s annual client drinks reception at the National Football Museum.
This year’s theme was Re-Discovering Manchester and students were asked to use their cameras to shine the spotlight on alternative areas of the city.
The nine entries looked at Manchester from different perspectives and scenes depicted included Central Library, First Street, One St Peter’s and other views of the city.
Ulysse captured the Beetham Tower in a series of images from around the city, while Jacob looked through his lens at One St Peter’s Square.
Mark Rawstron, Regional Senior Director at Bilfinger GVA Manchester, said: “Jacob and Ulysse have excelled, producing captivating shots of the city which show key Manchester landmarks in a different light.
“The calibre of the competition this year has been extremely high and all the students should be very proud of themselves.
“Often architectural photography follows the same blueprint but the students have used their creativity to offer fresh and unique perspective.”
The series of thought-provoking images and portfolios include multiple views of the city presented in one image, abandoned buildings, mundane architecture and a study of key buildings on the city’s skyline.
Ulysse di Meglio said on the concept of his portfolio: “The tower symbolizes the wealth and the power of a city. “Paradoxically, the tower embodies simultaneously the communality as well as the social inequalities describing the urban space. I grew up on the 14th floor of a tower in the South East of Paris and as a cyclist, I often refer myself to a tower to find my way back to the centre of the city I am in.
“To make this photographic series, I cycled around the Beetham Tower to capture it within a diversity of urban landscapes.”
Mr Rawstron added: “The competition is a valuable collaboration bringing students and business together whilst showcasing areas and images of our great city.”
