After launching her book ‘I Forgot?’ early last month, author Tahira Junaid invites you and your family to attend another dementia-awareness event. The book is aimed to educate children whilst encouraging people to speak openly about the increasingly common condition that affects 850,000 people in the UK.

Tahira, who has worked at Altrincham Library for nine years, will be holding an event on Tuesday 7th February at Bluesci at 1pm which will consist of a short talk about dementia, book reading and signing and fun memory games for adults and children to enjoy-which will be a true reflection of the light-hearted, informative book.

Bluesci Support are commissioned to provide wellbeing services  – delivering Healthy Lifestyle support within community social settings.

Providing:

  • An environment for community groups to work with shared values and ethical practice.
  • Role modelling an assets based approach within the community.
  • An advocacy role for innovative practice & outcomes
  • Wellbeing support in a social setting
  • Creative opportunities for statutory/commissioned services to work in authentic partnerships with community groups to achieve shared health outcomes.

According to the Alzheimers Society, by 2025, the number of people with dementia will increase to over 1 million, soaring to 2 million by 2051. As the numbers rapidly increase, there is no doubt that it is important to increase awareness in order to reduce social stigma. The 28-paged book also encourages children who have relatives who suffer from dementia to empathise, which will reduce social avoidance.

Light refreshments will be served and she will sign and read copies of her book out loud.

A £1 deduction in price from each book sold on the day will go to dementia charities.
