Police have made two arrests after an 81 year old man was left in a critical condition after being hit by a motorcycle on the Ashton New Road in Clayton on Wednesday when the rider failed to stop

A 24-year-old man from the Clayton area was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop and report a collision and perverting the course of justice.

A 26-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and obstructing a constable.

Both remain in custody for questioning.
