Train company TransPennine Express has launched a brand-new campaign to celebrate iconic movie and TV destinations across the North and Scotland, bringing filming locations to life via a series of interactive walking tours in three major cities.

The Manchester tour allows people to transport themselves to ten exciting film and TV destinations.

Research shows that one in five travellers have visited a destination because they saw it on a TV show 1 and with ‘set-jetting’ showing no signs of waning, TransPennine Express is excited to be able to navigate customers along a digitally assisted tour of Manchester.

Customers can easily access the route, destination points and information for each scene online through their mobile phone to experience the exact locations of popular movies and TV shows filmed there such as Sherlock Holmes, Snatch and Cold Feet.

Covering four miles in distance, visitors can discover ten famous ‘Behind the Screens’ locations in the same time as it would take to watch a feature film. Beginning at Manchester Piccadilly train station, explorers can envision the streets of 1940’s Brooklyn in Captain America, inspect Sherlock Holmes’ digs and stroll down the famous Canal Street that featured in Queer as Folk(as well as scenes from Fresh Meat with Jack Whitehall).

Those taking part can also discover the iconic party scene of Manchester and relive the life of Tony Wilson, AKA Mr Manchester and uncover the legendary Hacienda, an iconic Mancunian staple that featured on cult classic 24-Hour Party People. Customers can become fully immersed in the tour, become a Shelby and don a hat to walk the streets of the Peaky Blinders, or head down to the Rovers Return and reward themselves with a pint for their blockbuster efforts.

Whilst out and about on a TransPennine Express walking tour, there is also the chance to return to Manchester by winning a city break for 2 which includes a behind the scenes tour and weather masterclass at the ITV studios in MediaCityUK. 2 runners up will also win a £50 Netflix gift voucher each.

Explorers can enter by simply taking a picture at any destination on the
Manchester route, sharing them on Instagram or Twitter using #TPEBehindTheScenes and
tagging it with #Manchester.
