If sausage and gluhwein are your thing, you’re in for a treat this Christmas in Manchester.

As in previous years, the Christmas markets are spread out across 10 sites around the city centre. Comedy duo, The Krankies, officially launched in true pantomime style as they prepare us for a run of Dick Whittington at the Opera House. Coun Pat Karney announced The Krankies as the official openers of this year’s seasonal markets. As they declared the markets open for business, the hot chocolates and mulled wine flowed.

Coun Karney was very optimistic this year’s markets will be a huge success: “We opened at 10am and within a quarter of an hour a third of Albert Square was full. I’ve gone around most of the locations today and we’ve been flooded with people. I’ve never seen so many people on the first day.”

The markets began in one single site with just 16 stalls in St Ann’s Square back in 1999. Now you can get your A bratwurst from 10 market locations in Manchester City Centre!

About Manchester’s opening video has been watched by tens of thousands on Facebook already.
