The Anthologist and The Refinery

It’s time to say bye-bye to warm evenings and glorious sunshine. Restaurants will soon be swapping their colourful summer menus for warm autumn dishes. Marking the change in weather are The Anthologist and The Refinery by bringing you a stunning new menu – featuring fantastic flavours from around the world, cosy Autumnal ingredients and a great collection of cocktails to take your taste bugs on an epic journey.

One of Drake & Morgan’s longest standing managers, Keiran Brown, takes you on a voyage around the world with this Autumn’s cocktail list.  Alongside the well-loved classics that everyone adores, explore flavours and ingredients from across the globe with the South East Asian-inspired Jeerack – featuring Ceylon arrack, mango, cumin, black pepper, mint, ginger, lemon and soda – it’s sure to brush any cobwebs away. Paying homage to one of Drake & Morgan’s namesakes, Captain Henry Morgan, is the Morgan Caribe – a tropical blend of Chairman’s Reserve rum, banana liqueur, homemade cardamom and bay leaf syrup, banana puree, lime and pineapple that will transport you to the beaches of Jamaica. With voyages closer to home naturally of equal importance, The Irn maiden consists of Selkie gin – distilled by Fabrizio Coffi at The Refinery St Andrew Square – an Irn Bru reduction, and lime.

Both bars will be offering wine ‘passports’, where guests can stamp their way around the world of wine and earn some treasure at the end!

We all love classic British dishes, the new Autumn / Winter 2018 menu will have a selection of hearty pies. Created in collaboration with Michelin starred chef Chris Harrod (currently Wales’ representative on BBC2’s Great British Menu), these creative pies use unique pastries as well as fillings, and demonstrate Chris’s belief in foraging locally and seasonally.

But don’t worry – your Drake & Morgan favourites are still on the menu – you’ll still find the long-standing favourite fish pie and classic chicken and oyster mushroom in flaky puff pastry with mashed potato!

Must-try dishes include cod tacos with tomatoes ala, guacamole and pickled red cabbage; and the smoked chorizo flatbread with piquillo peppers, taleggio, rocket, tomato and nut-free pesto.

There’s plenty to choose from for veggies and vegans … from light tempura sweet potato skins with crispy sage leaves to warming roast Jerusalem artichoke with puy lentils, zhoung and spiced prune. Burger lovers, the vegan BBQ jackfruit burger with ginger and tamarind ketchup are dishes you absolutely have to try.

Whether is be a business breakfast or catch-up brunch – there’s new dishes waiting to tantalise your taste buds. Expect wonderful dishes like hot smoked salmon Benedict; green eggs with spinach, smashed avocado and lemon; and wild mushroom and truffle toast with spinach, parsley and lemon.

The coffee menu has had a revamp too – of course classics are still on offer – but with dairy free milk and beetroot lattes also making an appearance, as well as a nod to the LA trend of Bullet proof coffee (a concoction of espresso, grass-fed butter and XCT oil) to kick that brain into gear in the morning. With the fermenting trend going nowhere, The Anthologist and The Refinery bring you ginger, turmeric and black pepper kombucha for a gut boost to accompany your morning caffeine.

With winter terraces and Christmas no longer far away, both bars have got plenty more excitements coming up, so keep your eyes peeled.
