A thirteen year old boy remains in hospital in a critical condition after an accident  in Middleton yesterday lunchtime.

The boy was on a bike when he was involved in a collision with a blue Volvo lorry which was driving towards Manchester on Heywood Old Road  at the junction of Langley Lane. 

The boy was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.The driver of the lorry, a man in his 30s, stopped at the scene and spoke with police. 

Road closures were in place whilst officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene. 

PC Michelle Quinn from the SCIU said: “The boy’s family are currently at the hospital with him and are understandably devastated. We are continuing to offer our support to them. 

“We need to know exactly what happened and have been carrying out enquiries to try and establish this. 
“I would ask anyone who witnessed this collision and hasn’t yet spoken to police, to please do so. 

“Maybe you saw the van or boy beforehand, if you did then please also get in touch. 

“Dashcam footage could also prove vital in helping us understand the circumstances behind this. If you think you have relevant footage then let us know.”
