A rural Trafford village is to receive Superfast Broadband for the first time.
In conjunction with BDUK, the BT Community Fibre scheme is set to deliver Superfast Broadband to 93 homes in Warburton within the next 12 months.
Councillor John Reilly, Executive Member for Economic Growth, Environment and Infrastructure who is delighted with this news, said: “This is great news for Warburton and I am thrilled that residents and businesses on the Warrington exchange will now be connected.”

BDUK Better Broadband vouchers will cover the cost of the project, which will see the 93 Warburton properties, connected to the Warrington exchange, receive a broadband upgrade. A scheme to connect the remaining 42 Warburton properties on a separate exchange system is also under development.

Cllr Reilly continued: “Many areas take Superfast Broadband for granted, however in rural areas it is more difficult to deliver. Warburton has historically received broadband speeds among the lowest in the country, making internet usage difficult and in some cases impossible. I am therefore delighted that Trafford Council’s Strategic Growth Service was able to support the Warburton Parish Council and community to deliver this much improved service.”

Local resident Dr Edward White, who has been acting on behalf of the Warburton Community and leading the fight to connect the village said: “I have been pleased to lead the community initiative which will make a positive difference to the lives of many fellow residents of Warburton. Equal access to a fast internet connection is increasingly necessary for local families and businesses in the village and I am delighted to know that this will now be the case within the coming year”.

This sentiment is shared throughout the Warburton community, with Gaye Fletcher, Chairman of Warburton Parish Council saying: “It is excellent news that the majority of properties in Warburton will soon benefit from improved broadband speeds. Dr Ted White has done a superb job leading the initiative and we look forward to receiving this service during 2017. It is hoped the remaining properties will soon be able to celebrate also”.
