A replacement for Kay Bridge in Summerseat, which was destroyed by the Boxing Day floods of 2015, is another step closer.

The Government has just approved the Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) which Bury Council had requested in order to buy the land needed to carry out the work.

Now that the CPO has been confirmed, there is a legal timetable to be followed before the council can give the engineers the go-ahead for construction to begin, beginning with a notice that will appear in the Bury Times on 6 December 2018. It is expected that the bridge will be reconstructed and reopened in 2019.

Planning permission has already been granted for the reconstruction of the bridge, which will incorporate a new footway.
