The acclaimed screenwriter and film director Hugh Stoddart will be giving this year’s Anthony Burgess lecture on the 25th November.

Stoddart, well known for his original screenplays and his film and TV adaptations of To The Lighthouse, We Think The World of You, and The Mill On The Floss, will will discuss the excitement, hope and loss that come when a screenplay goes un-filmed, and the joy that arises when a film project goes into production.

 Foremost among these ghost projects is Hugh’s film adaptation of Anthony Burgess’s magnificent novel, Earthly Powers. Hugh will talk about the obstacles he faced in tackling such a huge project, as well as discussing the challenges presented by screenwriting and adaptation in general.
