The Hawthorn Gallery on Mottram Road in Stalybridge, a partnership gallery of Washington Green Fine Art, is marking its tenth anniversary. The successful business will be throwing a celebratory event this weekend; revealing a newly curated exhibition by popular illusionary oil painter, John D Wilson.
From 12pm on Saturday 4th July, the gallery, formerly the Hare and Hounds pub, will be opening its doors, for a day of art, refreshments and canapés and the special guest appearance by Wilson who’ll be chatting through his new original works.
Wilson’s artwork has been intricately created using oil paints, and enhanced visually as the canvas is presented on a three-dimensional scale using a complex technique called ‘reverse perspective’.

The anniversary celebration marks 10 years of the gallery exhibiting some of the finest artists around the UK, first having opened in 2005 within Portland Place and then moving to the old ‘Hare and Hounds’ pub in order to expand in 2012. It regularly showcases collections by famous names such as Bob Dylan, legendary Rolling Stones musician Ronnie Wood and acclaimed British mini-figurine sculptor Nic Joly.

As well as boasting art by some of the 21st Century’s most acclaimed names, The Hawthorn Gallery also supports up and coming young talents such as contemporary portraitist Emma Grzonkowski as well as infamous art forger, John Myatt – all from the Washington Green portfolio.

Ian Ince, The Hawthorn Gallery’s owner, said: “I can’t quite believe it’s been a decade since we first opened our doors. Art has the power to make people feel good – which is why we’ve P1160824reached this landmark in our business! We have an amazing portfolio of fantastic British artists which we’re really proud to be able to display. On the big day there will be lots to look forward to, including prize draws and giveaways.

“The gallery has gone from strength to strength since our move three years ago and we’re delighted to be celebrating.”

The Hawthorn Gallery will be welcoming guests from 12pm onwards on Saturday 4th July to meet artist John D Wilson and enjoy the party.
