A man who hid nearly half a million pounds worth of drugs in freezers in his home has been jailed.

Michael Mylott aged 46 of Astley Close in Shaw was sentenced to three years in prison at Minshull Street Crown Court today.

He previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply amphetamine and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

Officers from Operation Challenger Oldham – which targets organised crime groups and drug supply in the town – received intelligence to suggest Mylott was supplying drugs from his home.

On Tuesday 31 January 2017 police raided the house on Astley Close where they discovered amphetamine and cannabis worth an estimated street value of close to half a million pounds.

They discovered a total of 45 kilograms of methamphetamine and five kilograms of cannabis resin, some of which was hidden in draws and freezers.

In order to preserve the drugs officers had to arrange for a van to collect one of the freezers containing the meth.

Mylott, who was not at home at the time, was arrested a short time later in the Shaw area.

Detective Sergeant Richard Arthern from GMP’s Challenger Oldham team, said: “This was one of the largest amphetamine seizures in Greater Manchester and although we suspected activity at the address we did not expect to find the drugs we did in the freezer next to Mylott’s oven chips.

“All types of drugs can ruin lives and blight our communities where innocent people go about their daily lives.

“Our multi-agency operation infiltrates and disrupts the supply of drugs, dismantling organised crime groups who profit from residents’ misery.

“We will continue to root out people like Mylott and take drugs from off Greater Manchester’s streets.”
