A police officer has been rammed with a moped in Openshaw.

The patrol car turned onto Stan Jolly Walk on Tuesday evening, when the officers inside the vehicle noticed a moped, which had been reported as stolen

Two other people on mopeds sped off in an unknown direction, but the person on the stolen moped failed to start the ignition.

To escape from the officer who was approaching, the moped rider rammed into the officer before colliding with a parked car and fleeing on foot.

The officer suffered minor injuries to his leg but did not require medical treatment.

Chief Inspector Andrea Quinton of GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: “This is an unacceptable display of behaviour by someone who was prepared to hurt someone in order to flee.

“We are following a number of possible lines of enquiries and exploring forensic opportunities so we can find the moped rider.

“If you know anything about the incident itself or have any information that will help us find the person responsible, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 2262 of 03/10/17 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
