A scooter rider has died after he collided with a car in Withington yesterday evening.

Both vehicles,a white BMW 1 Series and a black Peugeot Tweet scooter,had been travelling east along Mauldeth Road when they were involved in the collision at the junction with Lathom Road around 6.20.

The scooter rider, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he sadly died from his injuries.

The driver of the BMW remained at the scene to speak with officers and no arrests have been made.

Senior Investigating Officer, Sergeant Lee Westhead of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This was a tragic incident where a man has sadly lost his life and my thoughts remain with his family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time.

“Our investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the collision remains ongoing and I would urge anyone that saw either the BMW or the scooter before the collision to please get in touch.

“Equally, if you witnessed the collision or have any information or dashcam footage that could assist our investigation then please contact police as soon as you can.”
