It was the one minute twenty three second video of a series of frames of feet clad in trainers squashing various items of fruit that attracted my attention.Hidden on the stairs between the two levels of Deansgate’s Castlefield gallery, it can be yours for. £50 with your very own selected fruit to be pulverised by the artist

This is the annual head to head exhibition celebrating the galleries 30th anniversary with an established artist, this year flavour of the month Ryan Gander and five up and coming North West artists, Robert Carter, Helen Collett, Monty, Lois MacDonald, and Joe Fletcher Orr, who like Gander, continually restructure, critically yet positively, the many art worlds they find themselves working within.

Downstairs further delights including Ryan’s contribution, his culturefield a private space where people can be artistically motivated, a porthole three ribbons and music best viewed from wooden pier which would mid launch be used to view the launch of a fly before being in the words of the organizers ” before being only accessible to flies after the opening night”.

Visitors are given an explanation of the pieces on show written on edible rice paper, the idea of Joe Fletcher Orr, who runs Cactus Gallery in Liverpool and is also responsible for the green neon sign shouting out the words “Turnt Down” his response to having being turned down from displaying on that wall in a previous guise.

My personal favourites fill this part of the gallery, Robert Carter’s structure for reading while standing Helen Collett’s plinths of two twelve bottle wooden cases of fine wine with a chance for tasting the contents of one mid exhibition.
