Following new research issued by Lloyds Bank this week, which found that start-up costs had reached £12.000 per annum, global recruiter Rethink Group has announced a new initiative to help emerging tech businesses in Manchester.

The Group’s Start-Up Zone will give enthusiastic, Manchester-based digital entrepreneurs access to a range of complementary business services including their own desk for three months, access to office space and facilities, plus mentoring from the Group’s COO Andy Lord – he explained: “I am passionate about business start-ups and giving people the chance to flourish in their endeavours.

“For some time now, my team and I have been working to establish something that helps out small businesses, led by passionate, likeminded people. This no-string attached offering will do just that, giving entrepreneurs an inspiring space in which they can develop their ideas.

“The Lloyds research substantiates our plans; it found that property is the largest outgoing of non-home based start-up businesses and founders don’t appear to budget for the £3,000 they’ll spend on their premises, rates and utilities in their first year. We also hope that by offering mentoring we can mitigate their overall risks and costs with some good advice.

“It’s imperative that we help grow digital businesses – it’s an area important to our business and the city as a whole thanks to the £10bn GVA it generates for the region. Giving them a credible, centrally located base to establish themselves is a good start.”

Rethink recently positioned itself in the digital sector having acquired Digital Gurus and establishing the brand’s first Manchester office, from which it intends to address the digital skills shortage in the North of England. A team of 10 has already been established with a pan-Northern client base already using the company’s recruitment and talent management services.
