Oldham Council’s Music Service has teamed up with Carrot Productions this Christmas to provide local residents with a very special live performance of the Raymond Briggs iconic film ‘The Snowman’.

Taking place at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on Tuesday 12 December, the festive family favourite will be projected onto to the big screen, accompanied by a live orchestra comprising first class musicians – many of whom are members of the BBC Philharmonic and The Hallé.

‘The Snowman’ comes to the borough as part of Carrot Productions’ fifth annual tour which consists of a record breaking 46 performances across 15 different venues in the Midlands and the North of England this December.

Two performances will take place in Oldham on the day, with more than 800 local pupils attending the afternoon viewing at 1.30pm, before local charity groups arrive in the evening for a relaxed performance at 7pm.

Funded and organised by the Music Service, this event highlights the council’s commitment to providing Oldham residents with real, high quality musical experiences and opportunities.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Cooperatives, said: “This is a great way to support and fulfil the musical aspirations of young people living in the borough.

“It’s also good to see Oldham Council’s Music Service working cooperatively with Carrot Productions to provide this fun introduction to the orchestra.

“The Snowman is an absolute classic and I hope it can inspire even more residents to take up on the exceptional music lessons we have on offer at our wonderful Music Service.”

Rachel Whibley, Managing Director of Carrot Productions Limited, said: “We are really excited to work closely with Oldham Council’s Music Service to put on a spectacular show for the local residents. The whole day will be magical and it will be one to remember for all.”
