A month’s worth of rainfall is expected to hit Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire this weekend.
 A number of flood warning and flood alerts are likely to be issued across Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire in the next 24 hours. 

 It is expected that from 12:00 on Saturday 14th November prolonged rainfall could increase the risk of flood in parts Rochdale, Littleborough, Strongstry and Chatterton. Marple Bridge and Portwood could also be affected.

People are being advised be prepared, check their flood risk and get early flood warnings, by visiting our website or calling our 24-hour Floodline on 0345 988 1188. 

Advice can be found on .gov.uk where you can download a flood plan template. This is where you can get practical tips on what do if flooding is likely, such as knowing how to turn off the gas, electricity and water supplies, making sure you check on vulnerable relatives and keeping valuable personal items safe.

Environment Agency teams are out working to minimise river flood risk, clearing debris from streams and unblocking culverts.

Mark Garratt Flood Manager at the Environment Agency said: “Intense heavy rainfall this weekend brings a risk of flooding across part of Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. Flooding can happen very quickly and the public are urged to keep checking local weather forecasts and the .Gov.uk website for information on a regular basis. 

“We will continue to monitor river levels closely and issue warnings where flooding is likely.”
