Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to after a woman was racially abused on a Manchester city centre tram.

The incident happened at A5.25pm on Friday 3 February, when a 39–year-old woman was on a tram at Piccadilly Gardens when she was racially abused by a man. The woman got off the tram and reported it to police.

Police are treating this as a hate crime and are appealing have released an image of a man they want to speak to.

Police Constable Mike Burgess of GMP’s city of Manchester Team said: “No-one should be subjected to such vile racist abuse and we will simply not tolerate hate crime in our city.

“We have launched an investigation and I am keen to identify the man in the photo. I urge you to get in touch if you recognise him or witnessed the incident.”
