A 40-year-old man was stabbed on Deansgate last night.

The man was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries following the incident which took place around 11.30pm at the junction with King Street.

An investigation has been launched and police are looking for two men in connection with the incident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the stabbing, or any fighting on Deansgate are asked to contact police as soon as possible.

Inspector Gary Smith from GMP’s City of Manchester team said: “Thankfully we are confident that the man will recover from his injuries, but he could have easily died as a result of this horrific attack.

“I’m am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the stabbing or the fighting to get in touch.

“We believe two men ran from the scene and we are very interested in speaking to them about what happened.

“This part of the city is always busy and attacks like this are very worrying.

“I would like to reassure everyone that we are doing our best to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
