Police are investigating after a twenty six year old woman was attacked in Chorlton.in the early hours of this morning
At about 6.50am on Sunday 3 January 2016 the 26-year-old woman was walking on Barlow Moor Road in the direction of Hardy Lane, when she was approached by a man.
The man punched her in the head, knocking her to the floor, and then sexually assaulted her. The woman screamed and fought back and the man fled in the direction of Chorlton.
Police have launched an investigation and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
The man is described as being black, 18-25 years old, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in tall, slim build and was wearing a dark hooded top. 
Detective Inspector Mark Tootill said: “This was obviously a traumatic incident for the woman and we have specially trained officers providing support to her.
“Understandably, the community will be concerned by what has happened but I can assure them we have increased patrols in the area and are determined to find out who is responsible.
“If you recognise the description of the man or have any information that may help our investigation, please get in touch as a matter of urgency.
“I would urge people to remain vigilant about their personal safety at this time and stay with friends, particularly when out early in the morning or late at night.
