Pizza in style since 1965…

Pizza Express is known for its simple, authentic Italian food. Perhaps that’s why business has been booming in Manchester with 3 restaurants in the city centre alone; its the Italian pizza haven we all love and knead.

In an effort to keep up with the ever changing seasons and the multitude of different flavours that we divulge as the temperature cools, Pizza Express have launched its autumn menu. Having launched this week, you can expect to try the new ‘true taste of Italy’. As well as combining deliciously comforting autumnal flavours, the new menu will also include exciting new desserts, drinks and make more gluten free additions to the existing menu.

The new starter, Nduja Arancini, is a traditional Italian street food snack and has a name with origins meaning small, little oranges. True to its namesake, the new starter comprises crispy risotto balls made with spicy nduja sausage and pesto with a melting cheese interior. Although not favoured with oranges, the colour of the balls is vibrant and the spiciness of the starter mean that its vibrant in both colour and taste. Priced at £6.30, its a delicious starter you just can’t refuse.

The autumn menu specials will also see four new Al Forno dishes. Al Forno dishes are traditionally oven baked, so include items such as pizza, bread and pasta dishes. Unlike other Italian styles of dishes, oven baking the pasta, and so thus cooking it twice, means the pasta is softer and cooked to an al dente consistency.

The first new pasta dishes is the Broad Bean Rigatoni (£11.45) – a vegetarian and gluten free dish that offers an interesting take on a rigatoni pasta dish. Combining gluten free pasta, spinach, parsley, broad beans with a Pecorino cheese, the is a based on a traditional Sicilian recipe.

Continuing the gluten free pasta theme, the Bolognese Rigatoni (£11.95) is a the ultimate guilt-free comfort food. The gluten free rigatoni is encapsulated by a rich beef sauce cooked through with red wine, porcini mushrooms topped with a generous helping of Gran Milano cheese.

Campana Romana (£14.15) and Caponata Romana (£13.95) are the two pizza editions to the new menu. The Campana Romana combines pork and fennel sausage with Friavielli (similar to long stem broccoli) and is inspired by the simplicity of Italian flavour combinations. With a soft crumb coating, and with hints of garlic and chilli, the Campana Romana is warm, sharp and comforting.

The Caponata Romana (£13.95), is a vegetarian pizza that is inspired by the flavours of the traditional Sicilian aubergine stew, Caponata. With slices of fried auberine, tomato, red onion, black olives, green olives, red wine vinegar and capers, the pizza has a unique flavour profile. To create an even richer flavour, you also have the option of adding anchovies to the dish.

For those with a sweeter tooth, the new Sticky Toffee Bundt Cake (£6.50) is sweet indulgence at its finest. The moist texture of the sponge is an decadent take on the traditional sticky toffee pudding. The sticky toffee sauces oozes from the centre of the cake, and paired with the salted caramel gelato that accompanies – they’re a match made in dessert heaven.

If you’re one who fancies only a little bite of dessert after a meal, but can’t manage to stomach a whole dessert then the Dolcetti desserts range is for you. New to the range this season is the Lotus Biscoff Cheesecake (£5.35). This bitesize cheesecake uses the sweet, warming taste of Biscoff and combines the creamy smoothness of the cheesecake and a crunchy biscuit base that is rich enough to satisfy but not enough to overwhelm a large meal.

Finally, the new autumn menu will also see a Berry Mojito Royale added to the menu alongside a Seedlip Garden 108 (a non-alcoholic gin and tonic) as well as a Gingerbread Latte. Bottoms up!
