A team of dog lovers are donning their running shoes to take part in the world’s biggest ‘inflatable’ race to raise money for the four-legged residents of Dogs Trust Manchester – who are all hoping they will cross the finish line into a new home soon.

The team of ten, who all work at Dogs Trust Manchester in Denton, are hoping to raise at least £250 when they take part in ‘Gung Ho’ on 6 April, all of which will go towards caring for the dogs at the rehoming centre.

One of the runners, Deputy Manager Carol Margieson, says:

“We haven’t done anything like this before! We have had teams take part in the Manchester 10k but we wanted to do something different and this looked like great fun.We are used to playing with the dogs on their agility equipment here at the rehoming centre, but now it’s our turn! I think there’s quite a good chance they will prove to be better than us!”

Taking place at Heaton Park, the 5k obstacle course will see the team run, jump, climb and slide their way over, up and under ten giant inflatables including spiky balls, giant steps and huge slides.

One of the dogs who the team will be thinking about whilst they are navigating the course will be one-year-old crossbreed, Comet.

Carol says:

“Comet is absolutely gorgeous but has been waiting for someone to fall in love with him and take him home for quite some time now. We’re running for dogs like Comet to make sure they have everything they need, from toys to training treats, whilst they are with us, however long that is. On average it costs more than £40 each day to care for every dog we look after and we care for around 80 dogs every day of the year, so however difficult the race is, we’ll just keep thinking of our dogs. That will definitely keep us going.”
