Two leading North West musicians, Liz Jordan and Lynsey Marsh, have been inspired by their shared experience of losing a parent to Parkinson’s disease to use their musical expertise to raise money for the charity Parkinson’s UK.
Both women have held the role of Principal Clarinet – Liz is currently with the Northern Chamber Orchestra and Lynsey was until recently a longstanding member of The Hallé.
Tapping into the wealth of musical talent in the North West, the two are presenting a benefit concert for Parkinson’s UK on Sunday April 3 at 3.00pm at the Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama at the University of Manchester. They will be joined for the performance by members of the Northern Chamber Orchestra and conductor Stephen Barlow.

The day after the concert the same forces will begin recording the repertoire for a CD to be released worldwide and provide an ongoing source of income for Parkinson’s UK. Proceeds from tickets and CD sales will go directly to Parkinson’s UK.

Entitled Mind Music, the programme on April 3, put together by Liz and Lynsey, includes several masterpieces for wind and strings. Each piece has its own significant connection to its composer’s experience of neurodegenerative disease: the aim is to raise awareness around neurodegenerative illness in general, not just Parkinson’s. The resulting programme is a stunning and eclectic mix, ranging from the poignant and the touching to the wonderful exuberance of Copland’s Appalachian Spring.
