Lyceum Theatre Oldham continues this season’s success with Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall’s proper Northern comedy, BILLY LIAR.
Set in a made-up Yorkshire town in the early 1960s and written by two Leeds writers, nineteen year old Billy Fisher lives with his parents and grandmother. He survives his mundane life by escaping into fantasy worlds where he is in the army, moving to London or getting engaged to every girl in town.

The trouble is that he doesn’t keep the fantasies in his head. He wreaks havoc with his family and friends and even the audience loses track of fact and fiction…

Lyceum Theatre Oldham have taken on the challenge of this iconic Northern comedy in order to explore the talents of three generations of actors in the community. The challenge also lies in a complex, realistic single set which, in addition to the main playing area of the living room, incorporates stairs and outside space, all integral to the plot.

The set is designed and built by a team of enthusiastic and talented volunteers, who’s DIY skills have been praised by audiences and critics for recent sets such as OF MICE AND MEN and THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE. LTO would welcome more volunteers, particularly those with a flare for DIY. Anyone interested should call and leave a message or pop in on a Monday evening.

Lyceum Theatre Oldham closed in Summer 2015 for a major refurbishment of its auditorium. Audiences are now benefitting from new seating and a more comfortable experience in its basement home in the centre of Oldham.
