A 10-metre inflatable oscillating cinema is the highlight of a new exhibition inspired by Marcel Duchamp at Bury Art Museum.
It will be unveiled when the “Fountain, fountain” exhibition opens on Saturday (30 Sep) and runs until 20 January.
It has been developed by Manchester-based Mike Chavez-Dawson, based on Duchamp’s Milky Way ‘A Cinematic Blossoming’ and re-titled by him as ‘A Cinematic Becoming V1’.
The show also features a series of collaborative Artist Moving Images on a 65-inch screen sculpture.
The starting point of this exhibition is the conceptual artwork ‘Fountain, 1917-1964’ attributed to the father of conceptual art Marcel Duchamp. This is the first phase of the project, before it tours London, New York and Paris.
The exhibition will see Chavez-Dawson present material generated by his explorations since 2013, while including works, projects and thoughts of selected artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers and actors.
The public can get a first glimpse of the art at a free preview at Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre on Saturday 30 September from 1.30–3.30pm.
Opening performances will feature Ruby Tingle, Mark Butt, Simon Woolham and Luka Nayak, with refreshments provided by Barefoot Bubbly, Fentimans and Neal’s Yard Remedies.

Bury Art Museum is open Tuesday to Friday (10am to 5pm) and on Saturday (10am to 4.30pm). Admission is free and the museum is fully accessible. It is located on Moss Street in Bury town centre, next to Bury Library and opposite the bus/Metrolink interchange.
