New boutique hotel, The Lawrence, is now open for visitors all over the world to visit Lancashire as renovations have been completed on the two hundred year old Grade II listed building, making the hotel a destination in its own right.
The Padiham hotel owned by local Michael Huckerby, is now open and boasts 14 design-led bedrooms spread over the main house and the old stables. It also features an honesty bar, three function and conference rooms and an outside courtyard.
The 19th century hotel, formerly the Trevalyen guest house, was renovated last year and after extensive work is now fully open for business. The hotel was designed to feel like a bespoke experience for guests, created with a luxury yet timeless style, giving guests an escape from home. The design-led boutique hotel was inspired by some of the leading hotels in the world but in keeping with features of the original building, with luxurious roll top baths, classic subway tiles in each room, victorian tiled floors and beautiful sash windows.
The main house has been completely renovated and now houses one suite, three signature rooms, three superior rooms, and seven snugs. The Tolkien suite is the jewel in this hotel’s crown, with an extravagant floating bathroom created as the centrepiece, the suite sits across two floors and is the ultimate in luxury.
The four different room types all follow The Lawrence’s signature timeless style, and each of the rooms boasts a rainfall shower big enough for two, Nespresso machines, Temple Bar bath & shower products, robes & slippers, with a TV & digital radio in each. Room service is available and includes a selection of home favourites and comfort food.
The hotelier is passionate about creating a bespoke experience for guests staying at The Lawrence, leaving sweet treats for visitors and offering an in-house therapist who provides relaxation treatments in guests’ rooms.
Guests who book a stay at the hotel are asked to fill in a short survey before they arrive, to include the reasons for their stay, and questions on their likes & dislikes, so the hotel can create a bespoke experience for each guest. This could be anything from booking a romantic dining experience for couples on a weekend away, arranging flowers or cake for a birthday, transport to a sporting event, or even ensuring guests have got a good book in their room if they are hoping for a quiet getaway.
As well as the honesty bar and courtyard the hotel also has a beautiful garden room where breakfast is served each morning. The garden room can also be hired privately for weddings and events, seating 50 guests for a daytime wedding, with room for 100 guests in the evening. And the work does not stop there, plans are in the pipeline to create a bar and a rooftop leisure area to extend the hotel offering even further.
Over the weekend afternoon tea is served from 12-5pm, including a selection of homemade desserts and sandwiches, and can be served in the courtyard, garden room, or green room. Booking is essential.
The hotel is based in Lancashire, the food capital of the North with a myriad of top quality gastropubs and Michelin rosettes, and just a short distance from the Ribble Valley which boasts an abundance of award-winning eateries, making the location a firm favourite for foodies.

The name Lawrence pays homage to the name of three men who were a major influence in Michael’s renovation of the hotel, and well known in the areal; Reverend Lawrence Shuttleworth of Gawthorpe Hall in Burnley, the famous J.R.R. Tolkien’s uncle, and Lawrence was also the name of Michael’s late father.
Michael, who is originally from Preston, has worked in Manchester and Florida. He previously owned Simple – one of the venues credited with kicking off Manchester’s trendy Northern Quarter – and also ran digital and design business Creative Spark in the UK and USA.
However, he began his career at the Macdonald Hotel, The Tickled Trout in Preston and then went on to be food and beverage manager at Le Meriden Victoria and Albert in Manchester, where his passion for hospitality began.
