Employment and skills specialist Seetec celebrated its second national UK Employability Day on Friday 14th July, with a series of job fairs focussed on leading jobseekers back into work across the North West.

The events, coordinated alongside the Employment Related Services Association (ERSA) were held in Manchester, Oldham and Wigan, amidst recent employability figures which show the UK unemployment rate has fallen to a 43 year low of 4.5%, support from companies such as Seetec is crucial to ensuring these figures continue to fall.

A number of local employers and community orgnisations attended the Seetec centres with opportunities to fill and support/ advice to offer. Seetec customers had the chance to meet and find out more about the available opportunities and progress their interest instantly.

Manchester saw over 200 Seetec job-seekers attend the event, with over 100 interviews being arranged on the day. Plus over 26 in Wigan and Oldham.

A number of organisations appeared at both events with real jobs to fill including two of the largest providers of jobs for the local area The Brick Project/ The Queens Hall Action on Poverty and The Old Court both offering creative community roles.

Joining Communities, which is a social enterprise working to improve digital skills in the workplace and at home, said: “The day was outstanding, we were able to speak to people from all areas of Manchester and talk to them about the services we provide and how we might be able to help them in future.”

Greg Bates, Seetec Partnership Manager, said: “The event was a great success! We had 20 companies attend on the day to talk about the different opportunities they have to offer the region’s job-seekers including real jobs they could apply for there and then.

“We are proud of the work we do alongside these organisations and Employability Day helped shine a light the fantastic work our network does to help people gain employment.

Supporting North West job fairs to drive employment in the community, Local Councillor Nigel Murphy said, The work of Seetec is invaluable and it’s so important to ensure our communities and neighbourhoods are being encouraged and aided back into the workplace. I really enjoyed the event on Friday, it was great to see Seetec in action, I hope it was a successful day for everyone who attended and especially the job-seekers.”

Employability Day was celebrated by employment support providers opening their doors in over 65 centres across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
