Police investigating shots fired in Lower Crumpsall earlier this week now believe a moving car was the target.

A house and three cars belonging to local residents in Ansdell St.had all been shot at around 7.30 in the morning.

An investigation was immediately launched and several bullet casings were recovered from the scene which have been sent off for forensic and ballistic testing.

Now detectives believe the cars and house were hit unintentionally and the gunman’s target was actually a moving vehicle – a white Mercedes-style car.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Ennis from GMP’s City of Manchester Team said: “Initially we believed that the offender had come to this specific road to mindlessly target residents’ cars and homes.

“However, enquiries now suggest the intended target – the white car – just happened to be on that road and the shots were purposefully fired at this car.

“We are trying to work out exactly why this happened and who the gunman was and who was driving the car but no victims have currently come forward.

“We are continuing patrols in the area and if anyone has any concerns please feel free to approach an officer and they will try and help you in any way they can.”
