Sainsbury’s has signed up at the landmark Embankment scheme in Salford.

The 2,850 sq ft convenience store will open on the ground floor of 101 Embankment by the end of the year after signing a 15-year lease.

101 Embankment is due for practical completion in October, while neighbouring sister office building 100 Embankment was last month granted detailed planning consent by Salford City Council.

Both Grade A office buildings in Greengate sit at the heart of the City’s medieval quarter adjacent to Manchester Cathedral and Victoria Station – and represent the result of a joint venture partnership between Ask Real Estate, Carillion plc and Tristan Capital Partners.

Leon Guyett, Development Director at Ask Real Estate, said: “We are delighted to have agreed a deal with Sainsbury’s who will provide an essential offering for the occupiers of our Embankment office together with the surrounding workforce and ever growing residential population in the immediate vicinity.

“The new Sainsbury’s convenience store, in the ground floor retail unit running along Greengate, will comprise circa 2,850 sq ft.”

He added: “The remaining retail unit on Chapel Street comprising circa 1,600 sq ft is also attracting a good level of interest.”

101 Embankment will provide 165,000 sq ft of Grade A office space and 100 Embankment will offer 166,000 sq ft of Grade A office space over eight floors with the BREEAM Excellent building offering large column-free floor-plates of circa 20,000 sq ft.

A 442-space undercroft car park, pre-let to Q-Park, will also lie underneath the two Embankment office buildings, and be operational when 101 is finished.

Romy Clay, Sainsbury’s Acquisitions Surveyor for the area said: “We are extremely pleased to be opening a new store at Embankment, and look forward to welcoming our first customers when we open.”
