Three people were stabbed in a disturbance in Longsight last night say police.

Officers were told a man had been stabbed on Stamford Road around 7.20 while a short time before witnesses report a car pulling up near to Kebabish takeaway when a man got out and started talking to another man.

Before long, a fight ensued and a number of other people fled to the scene, causing the fight to escalate between around 10 to 15 men.

The group dispersed when it was discovered two men had been stabbed and another slashed with a knife.

One of the men, aged 24, got into a dark-coloured VW Golf, and was taken to hospital.

Another man, aged 29, was stabbed to leg and was taken from the scene to hospital in an ambulance.

Another man, aged 25, received minor injuries to his arm.

All three men have been arrested on suspicion of assault, two of them remain in hospital for surgery and the other is currently being questioned by detectives.

Detective Inspector Mark Astbury of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “As there were so many people involved in the fight last night, local people would have seen or at least heard something that could be vital to our investigation.

“I’m urging those people to get in contact with us straight away – you may not think what you know is particularly important but please, let us be the judge of that.

“Fortunately, we don’t have anyone in a critical condition but I need to stress what a different story this could have been, had the group not dispersed.

“The people involved were carrying knives and demonstrated that they were not afraid to use them – we need to make sure people like this are off our streets and those responsible answer for their crimes.”
